I saw 5 movies last week. I've been so busy all of August that I haven't been able to see any films, so I went crazy over last week and saw pretty much everything that was out that I wanted to see.
G.I. Joe
This film certainly has split opinions on it. I am on the enjoy side of that argument. I thought it was a lot of fun the entire movie and it felt like a good representation of a live action cartoon. They did change some elements and characters, but I was pleased by how much they actually kept. Can't wait for the sequel!
The Collector
My mouth hung open during this entire movie. It's from two of the writers of Saw and while it also has traps, it's quite different. The best description I have for it is it's half Tecmo's Deception and half People Under the Stairs. That to me means that I loved it.
500 Days of Summer
A romantic comedy that is indie, so it means it can actually be funny and romantic. Though it wasn't entirely romantic. It was a sometimes biting commentary on how real relationships are. Certainly reminded me of myself and people I know.
District 9
Had no idea what I was getting into when I sat down to watch this movie. Ended up having more of an action slant than just straight sci-fi drama. Great visuals, complex characters and awesome aliens and weapons. Now there just needs to be a sequel and a video game.
Ponyo
I knew even less of this movie going in. It was a Miyazaki movie and had some fish girl thing. That's even less than I'd need to know to feel like I needed to see it. I was disappointed either. I smiled and laughed during the whole movie and wasn't even remotely bothered that there was no real villain and no epic quest.
Still have Halloween 2, Inglorious Basterds and The Final Destination to see until August is over.
Yay movies!
