Hey there! No comic this week, since I was off at Anime Boston last week. Instead, here's some filler art, that's entirely meaningless to anyone who isn't Gil or myself! So I'll explain. You know how everyone complains about there being waaaaay too many people dressed as Naruto at anime cons? Well, this year, everyone apparently decided to dress like Matt, a relatively minor character from the second half of Death Note, instead. Our only guess as to WHY, is that a bunch of people must have thought that there would already be plenty of Lights/Ls/Misas, so it would be really unique and special to dress as Matt instead. Except it doesn't quite work out that way when 20-30 people all have this idea at the same time. Props go out to the one Matt who was actually playing handheld videogames, as Matt was often seen doing. Extra props go to the guy who decided to dress up as Light's Dad instead.
So anyway, con report. Gil came by the night before, so we could get up super stupid early on Friday, so we could get to the con super stupid early and register, since we forgot to do it ahead of time. We screwed up during the drive in Boston for a second but managed to get there and get in line. The line took a while, but since we going there super stupid early, we didn't have any 6-9 hour waits like other people had. So I guess it was REALLY "stupid" early after all.
We checked out a couple shows and stuff, got food, and then did a dealers room run. Then we checked out "Kite Liberator" which was pretty cool/ridiculous/silly, until it decided to just up and end abruptly. Maybe there'll be a part two? We also checked out Aquarion, which was also cool/ridiculous/silly, but is a TV show, so hopefully it won't end up just ending in the middle of something. Gil picked up the first DVD collection of it that Funimation put out at the dealers room later on. After that we went to the AMV contest, since there wasn't really anything else up against it. Unlike last year's contest, which was HORRIBLE, this one was actually pretty good, and was followed by a kick-ass animated short by the dude who did Haloid (which I still haven't seen). After that was bed.
Saturday we got up early again, and watched Dan Doh, which was about golf, and was entertaining in that "special" way. I think we went to the dealers roon after that, and then to the Bandai Entertainment panel, in which more than one person asked questions about Bandai VISUAL, which is actually a different thing.
We wanted to go to The Pillows concert afterwards, except that it was pretty obvious that the line was waaaaaay too long and we'd never get in, so we did other things instead. Except that when we were wandering around trying to find other things to do, we saw some people walk into a door on the third floor that had Pillows music coming out of it. Turns out the door led to the balcony and the security guard who was supposed to be watching it wasn't doing anything about people going in. So we went it too, and got to see a good chunk of their set, and got there in time for all the FLCL songs to boot! Score one for us!
After that we went to the ADV Films panel, where it was confirmed that they weren't going out of business, and were still going to be putting out Gurren Lagann (but still no new release date), watched a couple episodes of Magikano, and then went to the Hentai AMV show, whick was amusing but way too short. After that was the hotel and bed, because we were really hungry and tired.
Sunday is always the light day, but we still got up early, checked out of the hotel and then went to see Origin: Spirit of the Past, which we followed up with our final dealers room pass. After that we went to see Flag, which sounded like it could have been really really boring, but was actually really really good instead. Too bad the DVD kept skipping at one point, and the staff people stopped the DVD before the preview during the last episode of the disc, even though nothing was playing afterwards. Then we went home.
So yeah, Anime Boston was a lot of fun this year, like always. I picked up a bunch of stuff, since I had a big tax return this year, and therefore lots of money to blow on DVDs, books, figures and what-not. THE END!!!
