Hey there. There's a new comic up there and stuff. Go read it! Of course, if you are down here, you've probably already read it. Unless you just can't wait to see what I've written here first, since I'm totally awesome like that, or whatever. Oh, yeah, I also drew a drawing. Or rather, I doodled the main cast of Lucky Star while sitting at my computer, and I liked the silly doodles enough to quickie color them.
YOu can see it here!
So yeah, I was totally on vacation all last week, following my trip to Anime Boston, which I already wrote about. My vacation was mostly uneventful, but I got to relax, watch some of the stuff I bought at the con, and finish up the last volume of .hack//G.U., and isn't kicking back and relaxing what a vacation is all about? I'm typing this about an hour or so before I have to get ready to go to work again, and I totally don't want to! Which has a lot to do with the next part of this here news-post-rant-thing.
I finally managed to score myself a Wii yesterday! I've been in and out of wanting one ever since the stupid things came out, but always managed to convince myself not to buy one (not being able to just walk into a store and GET one helped in that regard). When Super Smash Bros Brawl came out and we played Gil's copy forever, it put me over the top to finally deciding I was going to get one, but the "how the HELL do you even GET one?" problem was still there. It also didn't help that I could only get one if I found it at Best Buy, since the only real credit card I have is a Best Buy one, and I couldn't really afford to buy one (and games and crap) otherwise. I made a couple of half-assed attempts to get up early and go to stores to look, but they didn't work, since they were half-assed attempts after all.
Then I remembered that I actually KNOW someone who works at the Best Buy that's closest to me, since she used to work in the videogame section of Toys R Us, back when I used to work there. So I asked her when they'd probably get more Wiis in, and she said to check the flyers each weekend, since they always put then in the flyers when they get them. Skip ahead to this past Wednesday, and while I was in Best Buy on my usual Wednesday store run, she told me that they were going to be having a Wii demo event on Sunday, and while it didn't SAY they were selling them too, they had about 50 in the back, being held for it, so I should come in on Sunday. So I figured it would be worth a shot.
Now here's where the fun part comes in. The event on Sunday didn't start until one o'clock, but the store opens around eleven (though I SWEAR they've been opening the store before then). I didn't want to risk NOT getting one, so I got there for eleven, and there was already a line. Though to be perfectly honest, I'm glad there was a line to get into, instead of having to wander the store for two hours while risking them all running out before I could get to them. It looked like there were a ton of people in line, but a lot of them were grouped into families, and it was one per person/family fortunately. A little bit intot the wait, they came around and counted down the line, and I was number 15, out of 50, so I was all set in that regard. All that was left to do was wait.
Ugh, the wait. I'm not too bad when it comes to waiting in line for something, hell, we did plenty of that the weekend before at Anime Boston. I even brought stuff to do, just in case there was a line. I spent a good chunk of the time in the Wii line reading volume four of Muhyo and Roji. But apparently the people around me hadn't evolved the line waiting adaptations that nerds have. You know, because they weren't nerds, since the Wii attracts a lot of non-nerd, non-videogame people. So I got to hear them complain about the fact that they weren't selling Wiis until the event started about fifty million times over. Oh and how they should try to get extra ones so they could eBay them. Though I guess nerds do that too.
Eventually one o'clock came around and they handed out the voucher page things for our Wiis. That's when I found out that the event was called "Wii for Women", which explains the drawing for the spa treatment they were having, and also sounds rather inappropriate when you think about it. There were roses up front and everything too. Then they started taking up a few at a time into the little sub-section of the store where they have all the home theater stuff. Right before that was a table set up with games and whatnot. I grabbed what I wanted and went up to buy it all, and had to deal with the usual "YOU SHOULD TOTALLY GET THE WARRANTY PLAN DON'T YOU WANT IT ARE YOU SURE YOU DON'T WANT IT???!?!??!" crap that they do. But I had my Wii, finally. Though it still seems a bit weird that you still have to get up early and wait in lines to get one, after it's been out for over a year now.
So I went home afterwards and set it all up, venturing into the dark and scary forest of wires behind my TV, and then spent the rest of the day checking out the games I got. I picked up Smash Bros (of course), Super Paper Mario, No More Heroes, Super Mario Galaxy, and Twilight Princess, which are all pretty cool and stuff. I didn't touch Wii Sports at all, and I'm wondering how long the slipcase with stay sealed (I'll open/play it eventually I guess). Good times.
And so ends my Wii-venture. Now all need to do is get one of those Nintendo wireless adapter things so I can get it online and pick up some Virtual Console games.
