Ooooh Trophies
Now my gaming can be given fake worth on my PS3, just like it is on my 360!
Hey kids! Your Uncle Yuji got into a big ol' car accident on the way up to Gil and Razlo's this past weekend. It was all the fault of stupid people doing something really fucking stupid, and I got take the brunt of it all, as my car got totally ruined and everyone else got to drive away with minor dents. Don't worry, I'm okay and didn't get hurt or anything. And I got a brand new car today, which I was going to have to get eventually, since the one I HAD was getting up there, so I guess it worked out in the end sorta.
ANYWAY, the gang came down and picked me up after I got the car towed all the way back to my parents' house, so I still got to hang out. We went to see Wall-E, which was really good. Razlo gave me a free copy of Rock Band for the Wii, since he worked on it, and already had the 360 version, since he also worked on it. I think the slogan for the Wii version should have been "Rock Out With Your Wii Out" but I don't think Nintendo would approve of that very much. I'm also downloading that MMORPG that Razlo and Gil mentioned, but I probably won't start playing it until I can get the full character options.
MMO games as a concept have always appealed to me. Who wouldn't want to play in a virtual world with their friends and potentially have never ending quests and cooperative living. The problem has always been though, that when I try one it's overly complicated or just not very fun. Add to that the monthly fee and I've been fairly happy not playing the genre at all.
One type of MMO always got my attention more than the others though and for obvious reasons, that was the "free to play" model. I'd already tried Maple Story and found it amusing, but it didn't really hold my interest long term. I meant to try Kart Rider, but always forgot to. But now I've tried an MMO that I actually genuinely like. While I'm sure it won't kill my interest in every other game, it does seem like something I'll spend a good deal of time playing.
If you've watched the above video, or got a gaming or anime mag in the last month or two, you may already know about Mabinogi. It's an MMO for sure, but it's free to play, has anime style graphics and allows you to perform lifestyle activities as well as combat. So one minute I may be chopping wood for a campfire and the next I'm using my axe to do a spinning uppercut to a bear.
A good example of the fun of the game is when I decided to be a traveling bard that would sing about adventurers accomplishments. I played my guitar near warriors and sang songs of their grand battles. It surprised, weirded out and entertained the random players I inflicted it upon.
In fact, most of the fun I've had with the game has been due to the randomness of its community. Whether it be myself and a girl being chased by a nude man or hearing someone play Mortal Kombat on their guitar while I'm in a store, the game has a lot of unique moments.
The game plays like a more complicated Diablo, and like Diablo, it's free to play. So free that you don't even need to buy the game. So go to Nexon's Mabinogi site if you're interested and download the game. I'm on the Ruairi server and my username is unsurprisingly Razlo, so feel free to add me as a friend.
