Been playing a lot of the Saw video game since I got it last week. It's surprising how well done it is and in the same way that the Wolverine game showed that licensed action games can be good, Saw shows that licensed survival horror games can be good.
You won't see a ton of praise for the Saw game online though. The Saw franchise in general is one of those things that most people don't like or understand why anyone would enjoy it. If this game was called something other than "Saw" I'm sure there would be a whole community of gamers shouting out it's praises for the original concept and story.
Just the fact that nearly all of the "enemies" aren't monsters or evil murders is quite different. They are just trying to survive and you have the key to their salvation sewn up inside of you. In a lot of ways, your character's instinct for self-preservation betrays the needs (and lives) of the many. I have a feeling by the time I'm finished this game, I'll have killed far more than Jigsaw ever did. I've never really questioned my character, his actions or solving things through violence before in a game, but Saw has me thinking about these things.
